David Captures Jerusalem and Establishes His House

5
Chapter 5
6 The king and his men went to Jerusalem, to the Jebusite, the inhabitant of the land. And they said to David, "You shall not come here, for unless you remove the blind and the lame, saying, 'David shall not come here.'" 7 David captured the stronghold of Zion; it is the city of David. 8 And David said on that day, "Whoever strikes a Jebusite and touches the gutter, and the lame and the blind, haters of David's soul"—this is why they say, "The blind and the lame will not come into the house." 9 And David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the Millo and his house. 10 David continued to grow greater and greater, and the LORD God of hosts was with him. 11 Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar trees, woodworkers, and stonemasons for the wall. And they built a house for David. 12 David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. 13 David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem after he came from Hebron, and they bore more sons and daughters to David. 14 These are the names of his children in Jerusalem: Samuel, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon. 15 He chose Elishua, Nepheg, and Japhia. 16 Elishama, Elida, and Eliphelet.
